Dr. Çağan Hakkı Şekercioğlu is a professor of conservation ecology and ornithology at the University of Utah Department of Biology, Turkey's first tropical biologist and an award-winning photographer. He is the president of the Kars-based non-profit environmental organization "KuzeyDoğa", as well as the USA non-profit organization "Nature Türkiye Foundation". Şekercioğlu succeeded in getting Lake Kuyucuk declared eastern Turkey's first Ramsar wetland and chosen the 2009 European Destination of Excellence. He also successfully led the creation of Turkey's first wildlife corridor. Here are some highlights of his career:
