Dr. Çağan Hakkı Şekercioğlu is a professor of conservation ecology and ornithology at the University of Utah Department of Biology, Turkey's first tropical biologist and an award-winning photographer. He is the president of the Kars-based non-profit environmental organization "KuzeyDoğa", as well as the USA non-profit organization "Nature Türkiye Foundation". Şekercioğlu succeeded in getting Lake Kuyucuk declared eastern Turkey's first Ramsar wetland and chosen the 2009 European Destination of Excellence. He also successfully led the creation of Turkey's first wildlife corridor. Here are some highlights of his career:

  • Turkey Ministry of Environment and Forestry wetland conservation awards, 2011
  • One of the most cited 1% of the world's scientists of the past decade since 2010

  • Stanford University, Department of Biology, Center for Conservation Biology, Ph.D. in ecology, 1998-2003
  • Outstanding Young Person of the Year in environmental and ethical leadership, JCI Turkey, 2003
  • Chosen one of the 100 Leading Academics of Turkey, 2001
  • Harvard University, Biology and Anthropology degrees, magna cum laude, 1993-1997
