ATAA CELEBRATES MAY 19TH
COMMEMORATION OF ATATÜRK,
YOUTH & SPORTS DAY

Turkish Americans have what it takes to be a successful heritage community based on strong grassroots nationwide, because one of the world's greatest grassroots movements was the Turkish Independence Movement, which Great Atatürk lead with the people of Anatolia soon after landing in Samsun on the good ship Bandirma on May 19, 1919. On May 19, 2011, our young people and their parents must consider John F. Kennedy's words and think not what their country can do for them, but what they can do for their country, both for the US and for Turkey. Saving the country in chat rooms and yahoo groups is no more than "laptop patriotism". Turkish American empowerment and strong US-Turkish relations need people who work hard, spend money for the cause, and effectively take ownership of their heritage. The young Turks of today are much smarter, wiser and effective than we ever used to be. ATAA is proud of and confident in our young folk.

Happy 19 Mayıs Youth Day!
