UMD Global Conference Reception
July 1, 2011, Washington, D.C.- The United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD) kicked off the 3rd Annual UMD Global Conference with a celebration of its 20th Anniversary of Independence at the Macedonian Embassy in Washington, D.C. The hosts offered an exquisite taste of Macedonian delicacies and wines. Leaders from various heritage communities were among the guests. Representing the Turkish American community were ATAA Programs Director, Secil Goksu, and TCA Project Managers, Beril Unver and Zeynep Guven. Senate and house representatives were also present.
Congressman Bill Pascrell (D-NJ), a strong supporter of Macedonian efforts, made remarks regarding Macedonia’s struggle for independence and its relationship with its European neighbors. He stated that "we can never, ever approach those that are against us in the manner that they are against us, in the manner to become them, just like them. That does not solve any problems. We need to reconcile our differences and I am speaking to the congregation now because many of you know what I am saying. But so many [people] do not understand that. "
The reception concluded with "UMD International Freedom Award recognitions for Senators Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) and John McCcain (R-AZ) and remarks from former Ambassador Ljubica Z. Acevska and UMD President, Metodija Koloski.
Birleşik Makedonya Diasporası Global Konferans Resepsiyonu
1 Temmuz 2011, Vaşington, D.C.- Birleşik Makedonya Diasporası (UMD) 3. UMD Global Konferansını, Vaşington’da Makedonya Büyükelçiliği’nde 20. bağımsızlık yıl dönümünü kutlayarak başlattı.
Çeşitli etnik toplum liderlerinin misafir olduğu kutlamada lezzetli Makedon yemekleri ve şarapları ikram edildi.
Amerikan kongre üyelerinin hazır bulunduğunu kutlamada ATAA Program Direktörü, Seçil Göksu, ve TCA Proje Müdürleri, Beril Ünver ve Zeynep Güven Türk Amerikan toplumunu temsil ettiler.
Kongre üyesi, Bill Pascrell (R-NJ), Makedonya’ya sonsuz desteğini belirttiği konuşmasında Makedonya’nın bağımsızlık için yaptığı mücadeleleri anlattı: “Biz, bize karşı onların davrandığı gibi onlara davranamayız, onlar gibi olamayız. Onların davrandığı gibi onlara davranmak hiç bir problemi çözemez. Bir araya gelip farklılıklarımızı konuşmalıyız ve sizin bunu çok iyi bildiğinize eminim. Ama ne yazık ki çok kişi bunu bilmiyor.”
Resepsiyonun sonunda, senatör Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) ve John McCain (R-AZ)’ne ‘'UMD Ulusal Bağımsızlık Ödülü’ verildi.
Makendonya'nın eski büyükelçisi Ljubica Z. Acevska ve UMD başkanı Meto Koloski tüm misafirlere destek ve katılımları için teşekkür ettiler.
