October 26, 2021, Alexandria, VA | Investigative journalist and author Yılmaz Polat met with ATAA members, Turkish American community representatives and members of the press at the Turkish House of the Turkish American Associations Board (ATAA) in Alexandria, VA, and signed his new books.
The event began with the opening speech of ATAA Founding President and Board of Trustees Member Dr. Ülkü Ülgür, and author Polat gave a detailed speech about his new books and answered questions from the participants.
Dr. Ülgür, who began his speech by telling the foundation years of ATAA, said that ATAA never compromised on its Atatürkist, secular line. He said that he had known Yılmaz Polat for 40 years and that his love and respect for him continued to increase. He said that he was proud of being a representative of the Turkish community due to the books he had written over the years as an ethical and knowledgeable Turkish writer and journalist. He stated that it was very meaningful to meet at the Turkish House of ATAA, an umbrella organization of over fifty Turkish-American associations in America.
Polat, who began his speech by thanking the ATAA administration for opening the doors of the Turkish House to him, expressed his happiness as the longest-serving journalist in America since 1980.
Polat, who stated that he brought together his research on the development of Turkish-American relations and the problems that occasionally arise in bilateral relations in his books, stated that he has written 17 books to date and is happy that his books are used as references by academics in Turkey.
Polat, who said that he recently wrote a book examining the Erdogan-Trump relationship, stated that he focused on lobbies affecting Turkish-American relations and that he recently wrote about foundations organized in America. Polat, who stated that he wrote all his books based on documents and information, said that he will also publish a book on the relations between the Biden and Erdogan administrations. ATAA officials announced that they will continue to host similar events at the Turkish House on issues that concern the Turkish-American community in the future.
